FLICK PICTURE SHOW REVIEW: Southland Tales
Southland Tales. As in Tales from Southern California, but a unalike California, where Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is an action prominent turned prophet, Justin Timberlake is a warhorse of Iraq, Sean-William Scott is actually a yoke of twins, and Sarah Michelle-Gellar is a porn personage named Krysta Now. “No-one rocks the cock like Krysta Now.” Or so we’re told. You not in the least actually brood over her rocking the cock, and she is more than welcome.
But the film doesn’t examine and pander to the classification of audience who want to see a flare of tits. Actually, it doesn’t pander to anyone. It is past far and away the most experimental cloud to come unfashionable of Hollywood recently, if you discount David Lynch.
Initial of all, the dusting view of Southland Tales is in fact chapters four, five and six. Hey if The leading part Wars did it… The senior three chapters are institute in the Southland Tales clear novel, which actually makes more sense in itself and of the mist as a unscathed, explaining the a variety of theories behind the blear, whereas the coat itself drops the audience in the midst of a existence that is high removed from the one we live out in.
There is wi-fi vigour known as Indefinite Karma, a screenplay written while eye the effect of drugs that foretells the Intent Of Days, and some freaky at the same time travelling. So, the total you would expect from the brains behind Donnie Darko.
The layer is a tousle, but an interesting one. Share of the separated skeleton is caring with the puzzle that is the Tome Of Revelations found in the Bible, and you could examination this as its new cinematic counterpart. Some aspect Revelations as a stymie to be solved, containing a laws to be dissected. Richard Kelly’s fog is stressful to push this, using the descriptive romance and the membrane’s website to spare the joke and the baffling plotlines within, unequivocally strictly forcing the audience to actively endeavour it exposed, or, as most people did, pace short of the cinema.
While this cross-media, story/puzzle feeling is a bold impel, the film should weather on its own legs, which, morosely, it does not. It’s weird and wonderful, annoying and infuriating, littered with major performances and godawful ones. It intent no suspect go along with Darko in beautifying a cult flick, notably on series online walking dead.
We do not subscribe to seeing this dusting, but you destitution to get a load of it. It is the method less travelled.
